Pathu Thala is the official Tamil remake of the 2017 Kannada film Mufti. The neo-noir action thriller film tells the story of a police officer who tracks down and confronts an underworld boss. An undercover cop disguises himself as an assassin to work at the Mangalore Port area crime syndicate for 2 years. He is assigned to work for a criminal undercover by the police commissioner. Due to some incidents, the head of the crime syndicate invites him for dinner at his house where he meets his sister and daughter.
While the head of the crime syndicate goes for a stroll in the early morning, the undercover cop collects various bank account numbers in a book named Sri Ramayana Darshanam. He escapes minutes before the boss arrives and reaches his hideout. He helps in uncovering the crime syndicate and is appointed as ACP. When he joins the office he finds the Sri Ramayana Darshanam book, and he finds out that the criminal knew that he was an undercover officer all along, and was shown reading the book's copy in the prison.
