About Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

Taking place during India's partition, the film depicts the story of a truck driver, Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a Sikh, who falls in love with a Muslim Pakistani girl, Sakina " Sakku" Ali (Ameesha Patel), who comes from an aristocratic family.

The story begins with Sikhs and Hindus being attacked by Muslims in Pakistan while traveling by train from a railway station in West Punjab, Pakistan to India. Tara intends to kill Muslims during the Hindu-Muslim riots that erupted immediately after the Partition. Nonetheless, he comes to a halt after recognizing Sakina protects her from a homicidal mob that is hunting her. Tara Singh saves her by applying blood (implying sindoor) on her forehead in order to make her his Sikh wife.

Her father is the current mayor of Lahore. Back in Lahore, she meets her entire tribe. Everyone is excited to meet her. Later, she meets an extremely attractive man who comes from a wealthy and important family. She is informed that she will marry him.

Tara and his son learn that Sakina is getting married and try to reach her before the wedding. Tara and Sakina flee the city and take refuge in a poor couple's home near the border forest.

The film concludes with Ashraf Ali recognizing Tara as his son-in-law and returning to India after injuring Sakina severely during a battle.
