1. The protagonist, played by Sridevi, was inspired by Gauri Shinde's mother a Marathi-speaking female who was not fluent in English and ran a pickle business.
2. Sridevi is making a comeback in this movie after 26 years in Tamil films, 18 years in Telugu films, and 15 years in Hindi films.
3. In September 2013, English Vinglish was considered for short-listing for the Indian submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

8. Sridevi and Sujata Kumar who play sisters in the film passed around the same time around the same age. Sridevi passed at 54 on 24 February 2018 due to accidental drowning in a bathtub. Sujata Kumar passed away on 20 August 2018 due to cancer in the gap of 6 six months.
9. Indian actress Suhita Thatte, briefly appears as the airport immigration officer in India.
10.Sridevi and Sujata Kumar who play sisters in the film both passed away in 2018.
11. Sridevi's character of Shashi Godbole is inspired by director Gauri Shinde's mother, a Marathi-speaking female who was not fluent in English and ran a pickle business.

14. When the classmates all go for a movie, the movie theatre is also shown airing the film Mogambo from 1953. A poster of this film is also seen outside the theatre. Mogambo was also the name of one of the most iconic villains in Indian cinema in the hit film Mr. India which also starred Sridevi as the lead actress.
