Ballabhpurer Roopkotha tells the story of the almost crumbling Rajbari of Ballavpur which has only two men living. The film is based on Badal Sarkar’s popular drama by the same name. One is the last descendant of the Ray dynasty – Bhupati Ray and his inherited menial Manohar. The 'Dynasty' has no trace of wealth except the ruins of the city. Bhupati, who is the King of a sleepy town called Ballavpur, owns a huge but dilapidated royal palace and 7 acres of land. Bhupati is crippled by huge debt and dreams of moving to Calcutta after selling his palace. However, he has to get rid of the ghost that haunts it first. After several attempts, he somehow manages to get a buyer for his old palace.
In order to impress the buyer, he pretends to be the Royal King and takes the help of his creditors to become his royal staff. When Mr. Haldar, the buyer visits the palace there is a lot of confusion. Haldar’s daughter mistakes the ghost Raghupati as Bhupati and falls in love with him. This follows complete chaos and comedy in the movie. The quirky horror movie revolves around the antics of the eccentric last descendant of Ballavpur Rajbari and the ghost of the palace.
