Xiaomi's mystery device with 5-inch display could be the rumoured Xiaomi Redmi 5

The Xiaomi Redmi 4, Redmi 4A were officially introduced in November, but the company may already be working on its successor. A mystery Xiaomi smartphone has passed through China's TENAA certification site, which could be launched as Redmi 5 or Redmi 4X.

The TENAA listing spotted by MyDrivers, reveals that the handset comes with model number MAE136. The smartphone features a 5-inch display and a 4000mAh battery. The leaked images suggest it will feature a metal unibody design with tweaked antenna lines. A fingerprint sensor can also be seen on the back.

The dimensions of the handset are 139.24 x 69.94 x 8.65 mm and it supports both TDD and FDD LTE spectrum. Xiaomi recently announced the Redmi Note 4X in China, with specifications similar to that of the Redmi Note 4, introduced here in India.

Xiaomi has lost significant market share in China to rivals like Oppo, Huawei and Vivo. The company is presumably aiming to regain the lost ground by introducing these new handsets. The company is reportedly working on its own processor called Pinecone. The first smartphone with Pinecone chipset is likely to launch later this month.

The Xiaomi Redmi series has been quite successful for the company in India. Xiaomi recently announced that it has over 3 million Redmi 3S handsets in India. With the launch of the Redmi 5, we can hope the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A will arrive here.
