Apple is reportedly on track to give the iPhone a major glass-focused redesign for its 20th anniversary in 2027. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, citing people familiar with the matter, the company is working on new iPhone Pro models with a glassy look. The phones are expected to use glass on both the front and back, with the material curving around the sides. The report comes after Jefferies’s Edison Lee claimed that Apple had cancelled its plans for an all-glass iPhone because of supply chain issues.
Gurman’s report says Apple’s product roadmap has not changed. The company still plans to introduce a major redesign next year, although the final product may not be the completely uninterrupted glass iPhone that Apple’s designers originally imagined.

Apple’s design team had reportedly explored a more ambitious version that used even more glass. However, that design was dropped early in development. Apple reportedly faced problems with joining the glass panels together.
2027’s Pro models are expected to have glass on the front and back that curves into the sides. A metal band in the middle may help hold the design together. The redesign is important because 2027 will mark 20 years since the original iPhone debuted in 2007.

Before the anniversary models arrive, Apple is expected to introduce other iPhones. The tech giant is said to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max next month, alongside its first foldable iPhone iPhone Ultra. The company is then expected to launch the standard iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e next year.
Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly preparing press announcements, the keynote video, advertisements, store materials and launch plans for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Ultra launch. While an official date has not been announced yet, September 9 is the most likely date.
