The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, aka TRAI, is primarily known for monitoring the competitive background between telecom operators and shielding users from unfair practices. Most recently, their role has evolved, as now they’re navigating through 5G expansion and the integration of artificial intelligence in network management. Along with all this, TRAI also works on some consumer-centric apps, like the DND app and the MySpeed app. Recently, they’ve announced that they’re bringing some new changes to their mobile applications. Let’s check out everything new that has been added to these apps.

First up, let’s take a look at the TRAI DND app, which has been updated with new features. A key highlight here comes in the form of the support for an expanded multilingual interface, which can be selected when you open the app for the first time. As per the maker, the addition of such a feature will result in ‘greater participation’ from users around India in spam reporting.
Not only that, but the home screen has also been simplified and has been made feature-rich in order to get more users to report spam calls. The complaint registration itself has also been tweaked, which now allows registering complaints in much fewer steps than before. The tracking will be managed through a complaint reference ID number.
The makers have also added a new ‘Know Your Sender’ feature, which will allow users to know about registered headers and designated 1600-number series. Last but not least, the app has also improved the interface for DND preference management on customised blocking of promotional communications.
Moving on, let’s also take a look at the new MySpeed application. While the DND app has been added as an update to the existing application, the MySpeed app, on the other hand, is completely new. Upon downloading the old MySpeed app, users will get a prompt to use the new and improved application instead.
Speaking of the features, the app allows consumers to measure download and upload speeds, and the app also measures latency, jitter and packet loss. It includes video streaming and web browsing tests to provoke everyday usage. For the more advanced users, the app also has continuous testing and scheduled tests.
The TRAI has officially confirmed that these new revamped MySpeed and DND applications are in the process of being made available for download on Android and iOS platforms. We were able to download and test the new MySpeed application running on an Android 16 device, without any major hiccups.
Commenting on the release of these new apps, Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, TRAI, said, “These versions are aimed at providing a convenient and intuitive interface while enhancing the features for present-day needs.”
