Realme and OnePlus, two well-known smartphone brands, are reportedly set to go through a major change. Both companies will now operate as sub-brands under Oppo. This move is part of Oppo’s larger plan to simplify its business structure and improve efficiency. Even though Realme and OnePlus will be under the same parent company, they will continue to follow different market strategies and target different types of users.
According to Leifeng.com, Realme founder and CEO Sky Li will be responsible for managing all Oppo sub-brands, including Realme and OnePlus. Meanwhile, Li Jie will continue in his current role as president of OnePlus China. Oppo believes that clearly defining roles will reduce internal confusion, prevent overlapping work, and help each brand execute its plans more effectively.

One major change will be seen in Realme’s after-sales service. Realme will now fully use Oppo’s after-sales service network. Realme’s products will be launched as scheduled.
From a business point of view, this move makes sense. With Realme and OnePlus working under Oppo, there will be no need for three separate teams for research and development, logistics, and after-sales service. Oppo is expected to merge service networks and engineering resources. This will help the company cut costs and deal better with current challenges like the global memory chip shortage.

However, from a user’s perspective, the change may not be fully positive. In the past, OnePlus shifted OxygenOS closer to Oppo’s ColorOS. Now, a similar thing could happen with Realme UI. This raises concerns that all three brands may start to feel too similar, offering fewer differences. While users may still see different brand names, the experience could feel almost the same.
