Apple is reportedly planning to introduce two new features in iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 that could be a big deal for users who write in Arabic. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is working on a bi-directional Arabic-English keyboard and a virtual reed calligraphy pen for the Apple Pencil.
Gurman shared this information in his latest Power On newsletter, where he mentioned that the bi-directional keyboard would make it easier for users to switch between Arabic and English on their iPhones and iPads. He also said Apple plans to introduce a new calligraphy pen for Apple Pencil users. This “virtual reed calligraphy pen” would allow people to digitally write in Arabic script.

Gurman wrote that these features “play into Apple’s ambitions for the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and India,” where the company has recently been expanding its retail footprint.
Meanwhile, Gurman previously reported that iOS 19 will also bring AI-powered battery optimisation and cross-device sharing of public captive Wi-Fi network details. The company is also expected to redesign the look of iOS in version 19. The update will likely change the style of icons, menus, apps, windows and system buttons. Gurman called this the biggest design update since iOS 7.
