Claude Code product chief says constant AI launches are causing FOMO among users

Claude Code's product chief Cat Wu says rapid AI updates are causing FOMO among users.

People feel pressured to constantly stay updated.

Wu believes AI tools should help users instead of overwhelming them.

The AI industry is growing very fast, with new tools and updates being released almost every week. While this is exciting, it is also creating pressure for users to keep up with the AI-related updates. Many people feel like they have to constantly check for updates to stay informed and not fall behind. This has led to a sense of stress and fear of missing out, according to Cat Wu, head of product for Claude Code and Cowork at Anthropic.

Wu spoke about this issue on a recent episode of Lenny’s podcast, reports Business Insider. She said people now feel the need to stay updated with the latest AI tools. ‘With these agentic tools, not just Claude Code and Cowork, but across the whole ecosystem, people feel this need to like check Twitter every single day to see what the absolute latest thing is,’ Wu said. ‘There’s more we can do to help people feel less like they’re on this ever increasingly fast treadmill.’

Wu explained that things were simpler before. Companies used to release updates less often, making it easier for users to stay updated. But now, AI companies are releasing new features very frequently, often at the same time as competitors.

She also admitted that even Anthropic is feeling this pressure. ‘With AI moving so quickly and with so many ideas that we need to test out, we do sometimes have features that overlap with each other,’ she said.

Wu believes AI tools should help users instead of overwhelming them. ‘I would love people to feel like they can just open these tools. The tools will educate or teach them what they want to know and that they can just feel more brought along,’ she said.

A tech blog reported that Anthropic introduced over 45 features in just the first three months of the year. But these releases also faced hiccups. Recently, users said the quality of responses had dropped. The company said this was not intentional and pointed to a few technical issues as the cause, as per the report.
