Microsoft Kinect to cost $189?

Updated on 14-Jun-2010

The rumours won’t abate. Moments after we revealed the new avatar of the Xbox 360, and that the motion-controller for Xbox 360 code-named Natal will sell as Kinect, we hear that the Microsoft Kinect will retail for as much as $189 US. These rumours state that Kinect will come in at least two different flavours, with the highest-end peripheral selling for $189. For now, we will take these rumours with a huge pinch of salt. $189 would make Kinect a dead-on-arrival product. As we had noted earlier, the pricing for Natal/Kinect has been rumoured to be all over the spectrum – from around $60 (which would have been the best price), to $150, to now a $189 price point. Ironically, this wide range of pricing makes sense if you believe that Kinect will sell as more than one version (SKU).

Time will tell. Tick-tock, E3 2010 is almost here.
