Ghost of Yotei Cherry Blossom Shrine
It will soon be a year when Ghost of Yotei launched on the PlayStation 5 and if you thought that the developers had forgotten about the game, you’re wrong. Sony and Sucker Punch Productions are bringing a major content update as the game approaches its first anniversary. The Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition will launch on October 1 and will include a new story expansion, a new single-player combat survival mode, additional cosmetics and several other extras. Moreover, the update is not limited to players buying the Complete Edition. Existing owners of Ghost of Yotei will also receive several new features through a free patch on the same day. The new content will expand Atsu’s story while also giving players a new way to experience the game’s combat. Without further ado, read on to know all that is new.

The biggest addition here will be Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara, a new narrative expansion that will explore both Atsu’s present and her past. The story will introduce Nagato, a character from Atsu’s past who arrives in Ezo. Players will also explore a previously unseen valley that was once home to The Snake and his followers, known as the Vipers.
The expansion will also take players back to the Battle of Sekigahara through flashbacks, showing an important period in Atsu’s life before she returned home to begin her quest for vengeance. Sucker Punch says the expansion will introduce new enemies, heavy weapons, armour sets and dyes.
The second major addition in the update is Ghost of Yotei: Most Wanted, a new single-player combat survival mode inspired by the roguelike genre. Players will take on bounties to begin runs, with defeated enemies rewarding perks and unlocking additional playable characters. Atsu will specialise in dual katanas, while Oyuki uses the kusarigama and Nagato uses a yari.
The Complete Edition will cost $69.99 and will include the main game, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the new Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and Most Wanted. It will also include content that was previously part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, along with the Charm of Hokkyokusei.
However, those who already own Ghost of Yotei can simply purchase the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99. The new expansion and Most Wanted will be added through a patch on October 1.
So, what about those who do not buy the upgrade? They will still receive several new features through the same free update.
One of these is the new Beauty of Yotei mode, which turns the game’s environments into a screensaver-like experience. It is designed to let players simply leave the game running and enjoy the landscapes of Ezo, while also offering new opportunities for Photo Mode captures.
The update will also add new tracks to Watanabe Mode. Other quality of life additions include an option to keep the appearance of one armour set while using another set’s stats, along with a new high contrast accessibility option. Players buying the Complete Edition will also get new Photo Mode stamps, additional New Game Plus cosmetics and new Trophies tied to the expansion and survival mode.
