Production for Bridgerton season 5 has officially begun, and this time the spotlight will shift to a character who has mostly remained in the background so far. The upcoming season will focus on Francesca Bridgerton and is set to introduce the show’s first same-sex love story.

Showrunner Jess Brownell has hinted that the new chapter will retain the series’ signature charm of emotional depth, humour and romance. The storyline will draw inspiration from  Julia Quinn’s book When He Was Wicked.

Bridgerton season 5 storyline

Bridgerton season 5 will focus on Francesca Bridgerton’s journey after a heartbreaking personal loss. Francesca’s husband, John Stirling, passes away, leaving her struggling with grief and emotional pain. After this tragedy, she steps back from society and chooses to live a quiet life.

After nearly two years, she begins to think about returning to society and finding love again. Things start to change when Michaela, John’s cousin, returns to London to take responsibility for the family estate. As Francesca and Michaela spend more time together, their bond slowly grows stronger. This unexpected connection makes Francesca rethink what she truly wants from life and relationships.

Bridgerton season 5 release timeline

Netflix has not yet announced an official release date of Bridgerton season 5. Word has it that the new season may premiere sometime between late 2027 and early 2028.

Bridgerton season 6 already confirmed

The creators have already confirmed that the show will continue with another installment. In fact, Netflix renewed Bridgerton for both season 5 and season 6 even before season 4 premiered.
