Whether a movie turns out to be good or bad, one thing always remains true: the hype around its poster is altogether different. Movie posters almost have a fanbase of their own; many people love creating such posters, too. But traditionally, creating professional-looking posters has required either expensive software or a trained graphic designer.
But those days are long gone now, and that’s because ever since ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities have improved, transforming ordinary photos into cinematic movie posters has become much simpler. You don’t need any Photoshop skills; all you need is a decent photo of yourself and the right prompts. Let’s take a look at how you can do so.

Firstly, choose the image you wish to turn into a movie poster. There are a variety of images that are worth creating. Be it portraits or group pictures, this style works on everything, so take your time while selecting the images.
After you’re done with selecting the picture, the next step would be to upload it to ChatGPT. Doing that is pretty simple. On your mobile/desktop, just open up either the ChatGPT website or the application.
Once there, head on over to the images tab. Now, click on the images icon in the chat window, which would then allow you to select images from your local machine. Alternatively, you can also copy and paste the images into the chat window for an even smoother process.
Now that the image has been selected and uploaded to ChatGPT, it’s just a matter of prompting. While you can attach various different prompts based on what movie-style poster you would like, we’ve created a specialised prompt that would work for any movie poster. It would just need a few tweaks, based on the movie you’re selecting.
Copy and paste the following prompt:
“Use the uploaded image as the face reference. Preserve identity and facial features exactly. Transform the subject into a [genre] cinematic movie poster. Describe outfit + pose + camera angle. Add a detailed background environment matching the genre. Specify lighting style (low-key, dramatic, soft, etc.). Apply cinematic colour grading. Add atmosphere effects (rain, fog, particles, sparks, etc.). Ensure photorealistic detail, sharp focus, and high resolution. Include stylised movie title text at the bottom.”
After all the processes have been followed, it’s just a matter of waiting. Once ChatGPT processes the prompt and the image, it will then generate an image. In case you’re not satisfied with the results and are willing to make changes to the images, doing so is pretty simple. Just click on the generated image and choose the edit option.
Though if you’re happy with the result, simply click on the share icon and either download the image locally or share it via the different given options.
We ourselves tried creating a bunch of movie-poster-styled images using ChatGPT, and the results were pretty good. Most of the created images included popular movies seen in the last few years. Check out a few examples below, and refer to these prompts to get the best results.
Copy and paste the following prompt:
“Use the uploaded image as the face reference. Preserve facial features, expression, and identity exactly. Transform the subject into a cinematic John Wick-style action movie poster. Place the character in a sharp black suit, holding a pistol in a relaxed but deadly pose. Use a mid-shot composition with a slightly low camera angle to create dominance. Add a dark, rainy city background with blurred neon lights. Apply dramatic low-key lighting with strong shadows and high contrast. Use teal and orange cinematic colour grading. Add rain effects, subtle motion blur, and realistic reflections on the suit and weapon. Include bold movie title text at the bottom in a sleek metallic font.”
Copy and paste the following prompt:
“Use the uploaded image as the face reference. Keep identity and facial details unchanged. Transform the subject into a futuristic superhero character. Design a detailed armoured suit with glowing accents and advanced textures. Use a heroic pose with the character looking slightly upward, framed in a wide cinematic composition. Create an epic background with a dramatic sky, energy bursts, sparks, and distant destruction. Apply high-intensity lighting with strong rim light and glowing highlights around the character. Use vibrant cinematic colour grading with deep contrast and atmospheric depth. Add particles, light flares, and energy effects to enhance scale and drama. Include bold cinematic title text with a glowing, futuristic style.”
Copy and paste the following prompt:
“Use the uploaded image as the face reference. Preserve all facial details and identity. Transform the subject into a Harry Potter-style fantasy movie poster. Dress the character in wizard robes, holding a glowing wand. Place the character in a magical environment like Hogwarts with fog, floating lights, and a mystical atmosphere. Use soft cinematic lighting with magical glow effects and cool blue tones. Add particles, sparks, and subtle magical energy effects around the wand. Use a medium close-up composition with a mysterious expression. Include fantasy-style title typography with a glowing golden finish.”
