Updated on 02-Dec-2025
HIGHLIGHTS

UIDAI is testing a new Aadhaar app feature that lets users update their mobile number at home using OTP verification and a quick face scan.

The process involves entering the new number, verifying the OTP, completing face authentication, and paying a Rs 75 fee removing the need to visit an Aadhaar centre.

Currently in early access, this feature will be released to all users once testing is complete and final improvements are made.

Updating the mobile number linked to Aadhaar may soon become much easier for residents across India. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is currently testing a new feature within the Aadhaar app that enables users to complete the entire update process from home. People will no longer be required to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre, as they will be able to authenticate themselves by directly providing an OTP to their new number and then simply doing quick face verification using their smartphone. The idea is to reduce crowds, cut travel time, and make things more convenient for a lot of people who prefer digital operations when it comes to important tasks. UIDAI has released early access to select users for feedback, and a full launch will happen once the feature has been fine-tuned.

Why this new mobile number update feature matters

The new feature will let people update their registered mobile number directly through the Aadhaar app on Android and iPhone. The steps are easy, with clear instructions for entering the OTP and doing the face scan. Once these checks are done, the request will be processed online.

This makes the process more convenient for those who prefer doing important work from home or find it hard to visit an Aadhaar centre. This update is part of the “Mera Aadhaar Meri Pehchaan” initiative, which aims to give safe and hassle-free Aadhaar services.

When the new mobile number update feature will be available

As the feature is still under testing, the date for a full launch has not been announced. Once the remaining adjustments are done, it will be released for all users via the Aadhaar app on the Google Play Store and the App Store. The UIDAI has asked residents to await official notifications.
