The company uses AI across three pillars that include automation, operations, and analytics.

Design-led timelines have reduced from weeks to one hour using AI.

AI will 'supercharge' people, rather than replacing them as per the company.

Designing and constructing commercial workplaces has been a more human-focused endeavour for as long as there have been workplaces, as it requires understanding clients’ needs and meeting them. But at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, I came across an interesting company called Space Matrix, which is integrating AI into this process.

I sat down with Amit Shukla, the CTO of Space Matrix, to discuss how this traditional space is evolving further using AI. From reducing design-making timelines to real-time construction monitoring, let’s take a look at everything I learned about this space from him.

The move to AI for Space Matrix

First of all, I wanted to understand what exactly Space Matrix does and how exactly they are integrating AI into their company. Amit went on a deep dive and explained the same to me.

He explained that SpaceMatrix is a company that builds offices around the world. They start with understanding the client’s requirement, their space requirement and other important things. Once that’s done, they then design it accordingly and construct and deliver the whole place.

Coming to the AI part, he stated that Space Matrix today uses AI across three pillars that include automation, operations, and analytics. As per him, integrating AI across helps them automate simple tasks like invoicing and payment processing. For the more design-led tasks, the company is integrating AI on that front too.

Amit explained to me that, “Because of AI, we are able to create concepts, create costs, create schedules, multiple options. Each client says give me 5 options. So earlier if we were able to do that in 2-3 weeks, now we are able to do it in an hour.”

Could AI lead to job losses?

Given how an industry that is so human-led is also integrating AI into its workforce, a common concern is that this level of streamlining could lead to job losses as well. So naturally, I wanted to understand about integrating AI in the workforce, and Amit gave an interesting answer.

He explained that their philosophy is about ‘supercharging’ people rather than replacing them. Backing his claim, he suggests that the company has a high employee tenure, and many people have been working here for 10 to 15 years.

As per him, if an AI can handle the manual task of sorting invoices, then that particular employee is freed up to focus on higher-level tasks, like optimising cash flow or improving other things. He suggests that they aren’t trying to cut costs but are using AI to deliver better projects.
