The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks

The Kids in the Hall: Comedy Punks is a comedy show that shares hardcore, honest and hilarious stories based partially on Paul Myers's 2018 book The Kids in the Hall: One Dumb Guy. The stories warm the heart and soul. The film documents the history of the group through both archival footage and contemporary interviews with the troupe members and is largely filmed at The Rivoli, and the Toronto club. The documentary has the earliest footage from the group’s formation where we see Mark and Bruce play together in TheatreSports in Calgary in 1981. It also has clips of Dave and Kevin meeting at their very first Second City improv workshop in Toronto in 1982. Dave and Kevin became great friends and comedy partners later on. 

The film also has parts with other actors and comedians commenting on the troupe's influence. It provides an insight into the life and work of five alternative comedians that took their show from stage to screen – with a few bumps along the way. The show also shares the impressions of producer Lorne Michaels who is credited with discovering the group. The group brought homosexuality into the open in the 1980s and was very radical in depicting queer-positive characters in the eighties.
