Set in 1971 Calcutta, Jazz City unfolds against the charged backdrop of the Bangladesh Liberation War and the refugee crisis spilling into India. At the heart of the story is a smoky jazz club on Park Street, owned by Jimmy Roy, a cynical, sharp‑witted man who prefers music, drink, and survival over politics.
But as unrest grows outside the club’s dim lights, the venue slowly transforms into something much more dangerous, a covert meeting ground for spies, revolutionaries, artists, and informants. Conversations are coded, loyalties are uncertain, and every performance hides another secret.
Pulled unwillingly into espionage and resistance, Jimmy must confront his own apathy as he becomes entangled in underground missions, moral dilemmas, and the cost of choosing a side. As history hurtles toward the birth of a new nation, Jazz City explores how art, language, and rebellion intersect, and how ordinary people are forced into extraordinary roles.
