Rustom almost demonstrates his innocence because there is no substantial proof against him. Back in prison, Rustom admits to the cop that he did arrange Vikram's murder because he was involved in a fraud that jeopardized national security. He demanded that Rustom clear the inspection of a damaged plane carrier, but Rustom refused. He informs other officers that if they purchase the carrier, he would make his report public.
He shoots Vikram when he declares that he does not love Cynthia and would not marry every woman with whom he has slept. The court has no evidence of this or the swindle. Rustom is acquitted by the jury with widespread public backing and his impeccable reputation.
