Mufasa: The Lion King is a musical drama film directed by Barry Jenkins. It serves as a prequel and sequel to the 2019 remake of The Lion King. Rafiki narrates the story to Kiara, Simba, and Nala's daughter, and it explores the origins of Mufasa. The plot follows Mufasa an orphaned cub who meets Taka, a young prince who later becomes known as Scar. The two lions form a close bond, almost like brothers. The film shows Mufasa's journey from being a lost cub to becoming the king of the Pride Lands. Along the way, familiar characters like Timon and Pumbaa add their unique commentary. The movie was released in theaters on December 20, 2024.
