ChatGPT Voice gets agentic features with GPT 6, can now create docs, draft emails and handle other tasks

OpenAI is giving ChatGPT Voice a major upgrade. The voice mode can now do more than answer questions or have conversations. It can connect with tools such as email, calendar and Slack, and use them to complete tasks on the user’s behalf. The company has also added support for its GPT-6 model family. ChatGPT Voice can now be used in ChatGPT Work, and you can ask it to create documents, presentations, websites and spreadsheets. The new features are rolling out globally through the latest version of the ChatGPT app. Keep reading for the details.

OpenAI announced the update on X, “We heard you loud and clear.” The company said ChatGPT Voice can now “use plugins like your email, calendar, and Slack.”

This means users can use voice commands for tasks that previously required typing and switching between different apps. For example, users can ask ChatGPT to look through their emails, check their calendar or work with permitted Slack information.

The update also brings voice capabilities to ChatGPT Work on both web and mobile. Users can ask ChatGPT to create a document, build a presentation deck, make a website or prepare a spreadsheet.

The company said ChatGPT Voice can now “be used in ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, so you can create docs, decks, sites, and spreadsheets or tackle complex tasks in the browser, just by talking.”

The GPT-6 model family is also part of the update. OpenAI says ChatGPT Voice can be powered by GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna. For everyday questions, users can use voice for quick requests and information. More demanding tasks can use the more capable models for work that requires additional processing.

Do note that availability may depend on the user’s ChatGPT plan and the tools connected to their account.
