It has been a few years since the first-gen Samsung Galaxy Ring launched in 2024. While that was a popular release for the category, fans would be eager for its successor. Well, there’s both good and bad news. Well, starting with the bad news, the Galaxy Ring 2 could arrive later than expected, but the good news is that when it comes, it could bring more meaningful upgrades. According to a report by South Korean publication ET News, Samsung is now expected to launch the Galaxy Ring 2 in early 2027 instead of launching it alongside the foldable lineup this year.
The Galaxy Ring 2 is expected to target users who want lightweight, passive health tracking without wearing a smartwatch all day. While the current Galaxy Ring already focuses on sleep and wellness monitoring, the next model could refine the experience further with longer battery life, a slimmer body, and upgraded sensors.
One of the biggest expected changes is battery life. The current Samsung Galaxy Ring offers up to seven days of usage depending on the size and usage pattern. The upcoming version may reportedly push this to around nine or ten days on a single charge.
That improvement may appear modest compared to smartphones or smartwatches, but it matters more in the smart ring category. Rings are designed to stay on continuously, including during sleep. Longer battery life means you have to charge it less and can have a more consistent health data collection over time.
Samsung is also reportedly redesigning the internals to make the device thinner and lighter. That could improve comfort significantly, especially during overnight wear. Unlike smartwatches, smart rings have very limited internal space, so reducing thickness without sacrificing performance is technically challenging.
The report also points to improvements in health tracking accuracy. Samsung is said to be working on:
These upgrades align with how most people currently use smart rings, mainly for passive wellness tracking rather than interactive smartwatch-style features.
As per the report, blood glucose monitoring may still be years away. The company is still reportedly working on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring technology. However, the feature is reportedly unlikely to be ready in time for the Galaxy Ring 2 launch.
Non-invasive glucose tracking has become a major long-term goal across the wearables industry. Companies including Apple and Samsung are believed to be researching methods to monitor blood sugar levels without requiring finger-prick tests. However, the technology still faces major challenges related to accuracy, reliability, and regulatory approvals.
For now, Samsung appears more focused on refining existing wellness features rather than introducing experimental capabilities too early.
By improving comfort and battery life, Samsung could make the product more appealing for users who want quieter, less aggressive health tracking.
Compared to its competitors, Samsung’s advantage comes from its larger ecosystem integration and wider retail reach, especially in markets where Galaxy smartphones already dominate Android sales.
So those of you waiting for it, may have to wait a little longer. Meanwhile, the current Galaxy Ring already covers core features like sleep tracking, activity monitoring, and wellness insights.
Since the Galaxy Ring 2 is still reportedly over a year away, some of the aforementioned details could change before launch. We will keep tabs on that.
