Samsung has applied for trademarks for the name Wheel UX and Gear W, which point towards its rumoured round smartwatch.

It seems the next version of Samsung’s Gear series smartwatches are on the way. The company has just applied for a trademark for the name Gear W and Wheel UX. The company has been rumoured to be working on a round smartwatch since August last year. The smartwatch is reportedly being developed under the name Project Orbis.

It seems that Samsung is really serious about this new device. The watch will feature a rotary bezel on the dial and a completely new UI. The new UI is interesting, since Samsung has recently taken renewed interest in this aspect of its smart devices. The brand new Galaxy S6 also makes an effort to tackle the criticism of its Touchwiz UI, with less bloatware. Read: Samsung's round smartwatch Gear A to feature 3G, voice calling

In addition, Samsung has also added a Theme Store to its mobile UI, which allows developers to build themes for its Galaxy smartphones. All said and done, the next version of Samsung’s Gear smartwatch is shaping up to be an interesting device to say the least.
