HIGHLIGHTS

What this means is that games like Unreal Tournament and others running on the Unreal Engine 4 may be available on virtual and augmented reality devices soon.

The Samsung Gear VR and Google’s Project Tango have been added to the Unreal Engine 4 Roadmap by Epic Games. What does this mean? It means that games running on this engine will soon be coming to virtual reality headsets and Google’s Project Tango devices. It’s definitely good news for those looking forward to playing games on a VR headset.

According to reports, the two projects (Gear VR and Tango support) have been labeled as September and October projects. This adds two new arenas to the gaming industry — virtual reality and augmented reality.

Google’s Project Tango was announced some time ago and detailed further at the company’s I/O conference this year. The Samsung Gear VR on the other hand is an Oculus Rift powered virtual reality headset that was announced at the company’s Samsung Unpacked event at the IFA 2014 conference today.
