After months of leaks and rumours, Samsung unveiled its much-awaited Galaxy Z Fold 8 last week. The latest foldable introduces one of the biggest design overhauls in the Galaxy Fold series, featuring a wider 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it a passport-like design. While Samsung’s new foldable is now official, Apple is also expected to make its debut in the foldable smartphone market later this year. The rumoured iPhone Ultra is said to feature a similar passport-style foldable design. So, how do the two devices stack up on paper? Here’s a look at the expected differences between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple’s rumoured iPhone Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Apple iPhone Ultra: Display

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 sports a 7.6-inch inner foldable display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. On the other hand, the iPhone Ultra is expected to come with a 7.8-inch display and a 5.5-inch outer display.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Apple iPhone Ultra: Performance and battery

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1Tb of storage. It is backed by a 4,800mAh dual battery with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging support.

On the other hand, the iPhone Ultra is expected to be powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, coupled with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB/2TB of storage. Furthermore, it may pack a dual-cell battery with a combined capacity of approximately 4,883 mAh. It is said to come with 40W-50W wireless charging and 25W-30W wireless charging support.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with Android 17 and One UI 9. It includes Samsung’s latest AI suite, which features Now Brief, Now Nudge, Gemini Intelligence integration across more than 40 services and much more. Meanwhile, the iPhone Ultra will likely launch with iOS 27.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra sports a dual-rear camera, which includes a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. There are also 10MP selfie cameras on both the inner and outer screens. Leaks suggest Apple may also use a dual-camera system, but with two 48MP lenses. For selfies, you can expect a 18MP camera on both displays.
