Samsung has quietly unveiled a new rugged smartphone – Galaxy Xcover 3. The new mid-range rugged smartphone boasts of MIL-STD 810G certifications (salt, dust, rain, vibration, solar radiation, thermal and humidity resistance) and IP67 certification (dust and water-proof).
The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 has 4.5-inch WVGA display. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat (upgradable Android 5.0 Lollipop) and is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and 1.5GB of RAM. The smartphone sports 5MP rear camera capable of taking underwater pictures anda 2MP front shooter. It comes with 8GB expandable storage and comes with microSD slot.
The smartphone is powered by a 2200 mAh battery. Other important features of the Xcover 3 include altimeter, compass, GPS sensors and LTE connectivity.
Samsung is likely to showcase the smartphone at CeBIT and will release in April for around 275 euros, roughly Rs. 18100. There's no word on global release and pricing of the smartphone as yet.
Samsung's new rugged smartphone comes amid rumours that the company is working on a Active variant of the flagship Galaxy S6. Import details have surfaced of an alleged Samsung Galaxy test device being imported into India from South Korea. The Galaxy device in question carries the model number SM-G890A, which could the toughened active version of the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Back in November, Samsung had launched its Galaxy Tab Active water-resistant tablet. Also Samsung's fist B2B and water-resistant, the Galaxy Tab Active comes with a C-Pen stylus, Android 4.4 Kitkat OS and a quad-core processor.
