A new patent shows that Nintendo plans to bring games like Super Mario to Android smartphones.

A new patent filed by Nintendo reportedly confirms that the company may soon bring its games to Android smartphones. Android is no stranger to game system emulators, with Playstation, Xbox and even Nintendo emulators available on the Play Store.

The new patent, published by the US Patents and Trademarks (USPTO) office, shows that Nintendo can emulate its 3DS, Gameboy and other handheld consoles on mobile devices and seat-back displays in airplanes etc. The patent isn’t exactly new though, since the company has filed for similar patents before and is only updating them now.

This may means that you will soon see games like Super Mario, Pokemon, The Legend of Zelda and others from the Nintendo stable on the Play Store. The move makes all the sense in the world for Nintendo, which has taken somewhat of a back-seat to Sony and Microsoft’s gaming consoles, and would give the company a whole new audience
