Google is now reportedly planning to drop one of its more unusual hardware features from its upcoming Pixel 11 Pro lineup, the built-in temperature sensor. For the unversed, the feature was introduced with the Pixel 8 Pro in 2023 and now, may not make it to the next generation as the company is reportedly focusing on the new design elements.
Previous leaks indicate that the Pixel 11 Pro series will have a noticeable change in camera module design, with only a single cutout visible instead of the dual openings seen in previous models. This has sparked speculation that the temperature sensor, which served as a surface thermometer, is being removed entirely. The sensor was later updated to support body temperature readings, but it never became a major feature of the device.
According to reports, the removal will make way for a new feature known as Pixel Glow, which will include rear-facing LED elements. While details about its functionality are unknown, it is expected to introduce a new type of visual or notification-based interaction to the device.
The temperature sensor has received mixed reviews ever since it was introduced. While some users praised the novelty, many questioned its usefulness in everyday situations. Even Google reportedly conducted user surveys to determine how frequently the feature was used, implying that its long-term viability was already being assessed.
So far, it appears that Google may exclude the Pixel 11 Pro and the Pixel 11 Pro XL from the sensor. Please keep in mind that these are only pre-launch reports, and no details have been confirmed as of yet.
As per the reports, the Pixel 11 Pro series can make their debut in August or early September. Again, these details are not confirmed so far. Speaking of the pricing, the Pixel 11 Pro is expected to cost in between Rs 1,03,999 and Rs 1,11,999 while the Pixel 11 Pro XL is expected to be priced around Rs 1,25,000.
