Apple could be preparing some of the most dramatic changes ever made to the iPhone lineup. According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant is working on what he calls ‘the biggest set of iPhone revamps in the product’s history.’ This may include the long-rumoured foldable iPhone and a 20th anniversary iPhone with ‘edge-to-edge’ design.

The report focuses on John Ternus, Apple’s hardware engineering chief, who is widely seen as a potential successor to Tim Cook whenever the current CEO steps down. Gurman says Ternus is ‘overseeing the biggest set of iPhone revamps in the product’s history, including a foldable model this year and a version with an edge-to-edge screen that could arrive as early as 2027, for the device’s 20th anniversary.’

One of the most talked-about devices is Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone. The company is expected to unveil it in September this year. The foldable design will reportedly open like a book, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Reports suggest the foldable iPhone could feature a 7.7-inch inner display along with a 5.3-inch outer screen. Earlier rumours hinted that Apple was aiming for a completely crease-free foldable screen, but latest reports say the company may instead use technology that reduces the crease without eliminating it entirely. The foldable model could include two rear cameras, one front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID.

Another device reportedly in development is a special iPhone planned to mark the product’s 20th anniversary. Apple first introduced the original iPhone in 2007, which means the milestone will arrive next year. Previous reports claim this anniversary model could feature a truly seamless design with a curved glass body and without any visible cutouts. To achieve that, the front camera may be placed under the display.
