If you’re looking to purchase a new AC, then it’s no longer about choosing the right tonnage or star rating. The companies are now offering a plethora of AI-powered split ACs that help the users to lower electricity bills and cool the room more efficiently. While both AI split ACs and normal split ACs can cool your room effectively, the main difference lies in the way they operate. An AI split AC can be operated via your smart device and can be controlled by voice command as well, while the normal split AC can only be operated using a remote. If reducing electricity costs is your top priority, understanding these differences can help you make the right choice.
In terms of energy saving, an AI split AC clearly offers an advantage over a regular split AC. This is because an AI split AC can learn your habits automatically. Furthermore, it’s smart enough to read the room and adjusts its cooling depending on the conditions in the room and the occupancy. It also optimises the performance of the compressor, thus minimising electricity consumption.
On the other hand, a normal split AC is set based on what you choose for it. It does not offer automatic adjustment; hence, you have to manually adjust the temperatures when necessary. Apart from features like a timer, it offers very limited automation.
In terms of savings on power bills an AI split AC can save you money in the longer run. A typical 1.5-tonne AI split AC when running for about eight hours may cost approximately Rs 35 to Rs 50, while a normal split AC can cost around Rs 45 to Rs 65 per day, which may look like a small difference, but over a year, this difference can translate into noticeable savings.
AI split ACs come with Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to control your AC using your smartphone. When connected to the same Wi-Fi, you can switch them on or off from anywhere in the house. You can also check how much electricity they are using or can set the running timers. Some of the AI split ACs even allow you to use voice commands like Alexa or Google Assistant to operate them.
On the other hand, a normal split AC only works with a basic remote control and does not offer any of the abovementioned smart features. If you want to operate your AC, then you need to be in the same room or the allowed radius where your device can catch the remote’s signals. Furthermore, there is no way to track energy usage or set automatic schedules.
AI split ACs just do not cool your room; rather, they do a lot more, like many of the AC models can detect if someone is in the room, automatically adjust the temperature, monitor the air quality, and even change settings while you sleep to keep you comfortable. Aside from all that, it also helps save electricity.
Whereas a normal split AC keeps things simple, as it provides you with basic cooling modes, fan speed options, and a timer. Keep in mind that there is no automation and you need to do everything manually.

The price of a 1.5-ton AI split AC is about Rs 38,000 to Rs 65,000 based on their different qualities. However, the price of a regular split AC unit is around Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.
It might look like the initial price of an AI-split AC is higher, but the savings on the electricity bills in the long run make up for the initial cost.
The yearly maintenance cost of an AI split AC ranges from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000. Compared to that, maintaining a normal AC unit just costs you somewhere between Rs 1,200 and Rs 2,500.
Furthermore, an AI split AC unit issues alerts whenever there is something wrong with the unit and filters require cleaning, while a normal split AC unit can’t do that.
