Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi Tag, a compact Bluetooth tracker designed to help users locate everyday items such as keys, wallets and luggage. The tracker weighs just 10g and measures 46.5 x 31 x 7.2mm. It supports both Apple Find My and Google’s Android Find Hub, although not simultaneously. The launch positions Xiaomi in the growing smart tracker segment, and cross-platform compatibility ensures users have flexibility across both Android and iOS ecosystems.

Price and availability

Xiaomi is offering the device in single-pack and four-pack bundles. The company hasn’t disclosed the exact pricing and availability details.

But as per leaked retailer listings, the single pack costs €17.99 (about Rs 1,930) and the bundle costs €59.99 (about Rs 6,430). These could change with the region.

The Xiaomi Tag comes in white. In the box, you’ll get a Xiaomi Tag and a user manual.

Specifications and features

  • Connectivity: BLE v5.4, NFC for Lost mode on Apple devices
  • Speaker: Built-in piezoelectric buzzer
  • Sensor: Accelerometer
  • Battery: Replaceable CR2032 button cell
  • Battery life: Over one year, based on internal testing under moderate daily use
  • Water and dust resistance: IP67 rating (immersion up to 1m of static freshwater for up to 30 minutes)

The Xiaomi Tag connects over Bluetooth Low Energy v5.4 and sends ‘secure’ signals that are detected by nearby devices connected to the respective Find network. These devices anonymously relay location data to the cloud, allowing users to view the item’s last known location within the compatible app.

The built-in buzzer triggers an audible alert when the item is nearby. The accelerometer assists in motion detection and separation alerts.

It works with:

  • Android 9 or later devices via Google Find Hub
  • iPhone and iPad running iOS 14.5 or iPadOS 14.5 or later via Apple Find My
  • Both networks operate independently and cannot be used at the same time. Devices on Apple’s network cannot detect a Xiaomi Tag set up on Google’s network, and vice versa.

So, the key differentiator is dual-network support. Most trackers are limited to a single ecosystem. By supporting both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub, Xiaomi is widening its addressable market.

The device also supports Lost mode. Users can add contact details and a message. If found, Android users will see a pop-up notification, while Apple users can tap the Tag via NFC to access owner details.

Privacy features include encrypted location transmission and anti-tracking alerts. If an unknown Tag is detected moving with a user for an extended period, the system can notify them, subject to network support.

Left-behind alerts are supported on Apple Find My. Users can add up to 20 frequent locations to reduce unnecessary notifications.

Its availability and pricing details for the Indian market are not known at the moment. If Xiaomi reveals details, we will keep you posted.
