Want Aadhaar on your phone? Here is how to add it to Google Wallet

HIGHLIGHTS

Users can add Aadhaar to Google Wallet and verify identity without carrying physical documents

Feature uses selective disclosure to share only required details like age or identity

Integration supports real-world use cases across platforms like PVR INOX, BharatMatrimony, and Atlys

Google has officially expanded its digital identity push by allowing users in India to store their UIDAI-issued Aadhaar credentials directly in Google Wallet. This will now allow users to carry a verified digital version of their ID on their smartphones and eliminate the need to rely on physical documents.

The company, in its blog post, stated that the integration is designed around global security standards and focuses on privacy. Among the key features is selective disclosure, which means that only the required information, such as age or identity, is shared during the verification rather than exposing the entire ID.

Adding on, the company has also partnered with several platforms to bring practical use cases to the feature. For instance, the users can verify their age for movie access and rewards on PVR INOX, confirm identity on BharatMatrimony and even auto-fill visa applications via Atlys. The company is also tying up with Mygate and Snabbit is expected to roll out soon.

The company is also expanding its digital ID capabilities globally. The users in countries such as Singapore, Taiwan and Brazil can now create ID passes based on their passport details and store them securely in Google Wallet.
