Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, is making strong moves toward launching its services in India. In a major step forward, Starlink recently partnered with the Maharashtra government to set up gateway earth stations in the state. These stations are expected to play a key role in providing stable satellite internet connections. Starlink has already secured most of the government approvals required to operate in India, with only a few pending clearances left. The company has also started recruiting local talent for its upcoming offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru, showing that preparations are well underway. According to reports, Starlink is expected to officially launch in India by the first quarter of 2026.

Although Starlink has not made an official announcement yet, leaks and early reports suggest that the one-time setup cost for the service will be around Rs 30,000. The monthly subscription plans are rumoured to start at around Rs 3,000.

Starlink’s network in India is expected to deliver speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 225 Mbps. While these speeds might seem average compared to urban broadband, they could be a huge improvement for remote regions. The government has limited Starlink to 20 lakh connections initially, ensuring a controlled rollout.
