Nvidia and OpenAI have announced a major partnership that could reshape the future of artificial intelligence. The two companies plan to work together to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems to power OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure that will be used to train and run future AI models, including those aimed at advancing toward superintelligence.
To support this project, Nvidia intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI as the new systems are rolled out. The first phase of this plan is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, utilising Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform.
“Nvidia and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia. “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward—deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”

“Everything starts with compute,” said Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI. “Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with Nvidia to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”
Under the partnership, Nvidia will be OpenAI’s preferred partner for compute and networking, and both companies will align their hardware and software roadmaps to optimise AI model performance and infrastructure.
This collaboration will also complement ongoing work with partners like Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate, all focused on building advanced AI infrastructure.

OpenAI currently has over 700 million weekly active users, with strong adoption among enterprises, small businesses, and developers worldwide.
