No, your Aadhaar Card will not shift to QR only format, govt confirms: All details

HIGHLIGHTS

Government has denied rumours about a new Aadhaar card design with only photo and QR code.

Press Information Bureau and Unique Identification Authority of India confirmed no changes are planned.

Existing Aadhaar format remains valid, and users are advised to avoid trusting social media rumours.

The news about the big makeover of the Aadhaar card has been circling around social media for a while now. According to the social media posts and the rummours, the Aadhaar card may soon be reduced to a simple format with just a photograph and a QR code. These claims have created doubt among many people who depend on Aadhaar as an important identity proof. However, the government has now stepped in and issued an official statement to eliminate the confusion. The authorities clearly said that the government of India has no such plans of redesigning the Aadhaar card for now. Here’s everything you need to know about the Aadhaar card revamp.

The Press Information Bureau, which is a government agency, has recently provided clarification on the new Aadhaar card look, stating that the Indians have no such plans to change the format of the Aadhaar card to a simplified version containing only a photograph and QR code. The agency has put up a blog post on its official site and has also posted through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that such claims are incorrect and misleading.

According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the body that manages Aadhaar, it has also cracked down on social media handles and unverified reports, stating that these are creating unnecessary confusion among the public. Much like PIB, UIDAI clarified that it has not announced any redesign or change in how Aadhaar will look in the near future.

This means that even if you apply for a new Aadhaar card or update details in your existing one, you will receive the same format currently in use, featuring your photo, QR code, and basic details on the front, with your residential details on the back. UIDAI said that the current format is still the only valid one for all official identification uses.
