The HP Z 3D camera is a first of its kind 3D scanner that can scan 3D objects on the go by attaching itself to the flat surface of a monitor.
HP took to CES to announce its first monitor mounted 3D/2D camera. The ‘zero-footprint’ camera faces down and attaches to the display to capture and digitise 3D objects, 2D documents and even take video.
Named the HP Z 3D Camera, the device works as an accessory to the current PC and allows for quick capture and can even be taken on the road. The camera measures around 4.5-inch x 8.7-inch x 5-inch and weighs 544 grams. It mounts on the back of the monitor which have a flat surface. Once mounted, the Z3D camera module can be easily removed as its attached to the mount via a magnet and three badges. There is also a scan mat.
The camera leverages 3D SLAM technology and automatically removes hands as the object is rotated. You can scan 14-megapixel 2D images and high-resolution texture 3D scans. Users can also drag and drop the 3D scans into Powerpoint 3D or Paint 3D.
The Z3D camera is compatible with most current HP Z and E series monitors and requires two USB ports for power and data transfer.
The camera is priced at $600 (roughly Rs 38,000). HP has not announced when it will be available in the market.
