Google is turning its AI Mode into a powerful travel assistant that can help you plan, refine and even start booking your next trip, all from a single interface. The biggest upgrade is an update to the Canvas tool. For those unaware, Canvas in AI Mode provides you with a space where you can organise plans and projects over time. Now, you can use this tool to create customised travel plans.

You just have to tell AI Mode what kind of trip you’re planning, and what you care about, like budget hotels, cafe-hopping or nearby hiking trails. Then select the option ‘Create Canvas.’ AI Mode will instantly generate a plan in a side panel using real-time Search data for flights and hotels, plus details from Google Maps, including photos, reviews and location info.

You’ll even see hotel comparisons by price and amenities, along with suggested restaurants and activities optimised around where you’re staying and how long it takes to get around. Also, you can make changes to the plan with follow-up prompts. For example, you could ask for a hotel closer to brunch spots.

You can always access your Canvas through your AI Mode history. For now, travel planning with Canvas is available on desktop in the US for users who are enrolled in the AI Mode experiment in Labs.

Meanwhile, Google has also announced that it is expanding Flight Deals, an AI-powered feature in Google Flights aimed at flexible travelers hunting for bargains. After launching in the US, Canada and India, the feature is rolling out to more than 200 countries and territories, along with support for over 60 languages.
