Google has announced a major update to its AI-powered UI design tool, Stitch. Stitch was originally introduced to help users quickly turn basic descriptions into UI designs. Now, Google is evolving the platform into what it calls an ‘AI-native software design canvas.’ The latest update adds several new features, including a new Stitch canvas, a new design agent, and voice capabilities. ‘Whether you’re a professional designer looking to explore dozens of variations or a founder manifesting your first software idea, we’re building Stitch to help you close the gap from idea to reality in minutes rather than days,’ Google said.

Google Stitch upgrades

One of the biggest additions is the new AI-native infinite canvas. This canvas gives users’ ideas room to grow from early ideations to working prototypes, according to the tech giant. The canvas can accept different types of input such as text, images and codes.

Google has also introduced a new design agent that works alongside the canvas and can reason the entire project’s evolution. There is also a new Agent Manager that allows users to explore multiple design ideas at the same time while keeping everything organized.

Another key addition is DESIGN.md, a new markdown file. With this tool, users can extract design elements from an existing website or import and export design rules between different projects or development tools. This means designers do not have to rebuild the same design system every time they start a new project.

Stitch also focuses on faster testing. It can now instantly convert static designs into interactive prototypes. Designers can connect screens together, press ‘Play,’ and quickly see how their app flows. Google is also introducing voice capabilities. Users can speak directly to the canvas to request changes or new design ideas.
