Google has officially announced the return of its Android-focused showcase, the Android Show IO Edition. It will be a virtual event that will offer an early look at developments ahead of the company’s annual developer conference. While Google has remained tight-lipped about specific announcements, the spotlight is expected to be on Android 17, which has already seen an accelerated beta rollout this year. The Android Show: I/O Edition will take place on May 12 and will be hosted as a virtual-only event. It is scheduled to begin at 10AM PT, which translates to 10:30PM IST for viewers in India. The livestream is expected to be available via Google’s official online platforms, including the YouTube channel.
Google has not officially confirmed the feature details, but Android 17 is said to be the major highlight. The whole event is said to be around performance improvements, refined notifications and better permission controls. Many features like custom Notification Rules, floating app bubbles for multitasking and improved cross-device functionality have already surfaced in beta builds and could be announced at the event.
The company may also share updates related to Android Auto, Wear OS, Android TV and Android XR with the extended rollout timelines. It must be noted that the company has not announced anything so far and these are just early predictions based on the reports.
For the unversed, Google is hosting I/O 2026 on May 19-20. This will be a two day developer conference hosted at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.
