After the massive outbreak of the ‘Judy’ malware which affected around 36.5 million Android Smartphones worldwide, Google has put forward a new reward of $200,000 for those who report a bug in Android OS.
According to the cyber security firm Check Point, a lot of malicious apps were downloaded, between 4.5 million to 18.5 million times from the Play Store. The ‘Judy‘ Malware was one such case of how an open and free mobile OS can be poisoned by malicious app developers.
In an attempt to attract more researchers and engineers towards the bug bounty programme, the company has decided to increase the rewards for reporting bugs upto $200,000. Google came up with the idea of their bug bounty programme for Android OS about two years ago.
In this programme, security researchers get a chance to demonstrate an exploit and get a cash prize. The amount will depend on how severe the attack is.
