OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is turning the disappointment of many users into excitement as the company moves past the recent GPT 5.5 celebration. The company hosted a private party to mark the milestone, but many people who applied could not attend because of limited space. Altman addressed this on X, saying the team would do something special for those who missed out. His message quickly spread online and got people talking. Many users are now guessing what the surprise could be, especially after signs appeared that some rewards may already be reaching inboxes.

The GPT 5.5 party became one of the most talked-about community events, as thousands of users signed up for the same within hours. As a result of the huge response, Sam Altman said the team would ‘do something nice’ for those who could not be included in the official party. This led many users to speculate what could be the surprise. Some people thought they might get early access to features, while others expected credits or upgrades.
While the company has not yet shared any official details about the surprise, clues appeared when Altman shared a viral post by Arav Jain hours later announcing the surprise. Arav posted a screenshot of an email from OpenAI and showed clear excitement. The email said that OpenAI had increased the Codex rate limits of his account by ten times.
Codex, the specialised AI model designed to translate natural language into code, serves as the backbone for several major developer tools. OpenAI is giving programmers the ability to build more complex apps more easily and efficiently as they increase the limit of Codex for them. Moreover, this also shows that the company cares about the developers using Codex and wants to make sure they aren’t held back by restrictions when using its technology.

Arav was clearly excited by the 10x upgrade and tagging the OpenAI dev account; he called the move ‘crazy’. Altman later replied with a short and warm message saying, ‘We love you too’.
While this strongly suggests that the increased Codex limits could be the promised surprise, OpenAI has not officially confirmed it as the only reward. The timing of the email and Altman’s earlier hint point in the same direction, but there is still a possibility that more benefits could follow. For now, it appears that at least some users are already receiving their share of appreciation, even as others continue to wait and see if anything more is on the way.
