ChatGPT’s Shared Projects feature now available for all: What is it and how it works

OpenAI has expanded the availability of its Shared Projects feature, making it accessible to Free, Plus, and Pro users of ChatGPT. For those unaware, Projects in ChatGPT let users keep related conversations, files, and instructions in a single place. This makes it easy to continue work without having to re-explain the context to ChatGPT each time. Shared Projects take this a step further by allowing multiple people to work together. Team members can see project content, add files, update instructions, and chat within the shared context, ensuring everyone is aligned and consistent. Here’s how this feature works.

How ChatGPT’s Shared Projects feature works

When creating a Shared Project, the project owner can invite teammates via email or a link. There are two types of access:

• Chat access: Team members with chat access can view and interact with the project’s conversations, files, and instructions.
• Edit access: Users with edit access can do everything chat users can, plus they can update instructions, add or remove files, and invite more teammates.

Each Shared Project comes with its own private memory. This allows ChatGPT to remember details shared by team members, so you don’t have to repeat information in new conversations. It’s a practical tool for businesses, creatives, or anyone working on collaborative projects who want to save time and avoid repeating context.
