Some ChatGPT Plus users trying to cancel their subscription say they are being offered an unexpected deal: one month of the plan for free. It’s not clear how widely this offer is being available, but several users online claim that when they tried to cancel ChatGPT Plus plan, they were presented with the option to continue using the service at no cost for another month.
The timing of the offer is notable because it comes at a time when OpenAI’s partnership with the United States Department of Defense (now Department of War) is facing backlash. Data from Sensor Tower revealed that ChatGPT app uninstallations in the US jumped by 295 percent day-over-day on Saturday, February 28.

At the same time, rival AI company Anthropic appeared to be benefiting from the situation. Downloads of its chatbot Claude reportedly increased after the company announced that it would not enter into a partnership with the US defense department. Anthropic said it could not agree to the proposed terms because of concerns about how artificial intelligence might be used.

Interestingly, Anthropic recently introduced a new feature that aims to make it easier for users to move from other AI chatbots to Claude. The new memory import tool allows people to transfer saved context and chat history from another AI chatbot.
The process is simple and easy. There is a specific prompt that users can paste into their existing AI chatbot. Then they just have to paste the results into Claude’s memory settings. Claude will then process the data to understand the user’s preferences and past context.
