The IRCTC website is all set to get a new update. The revamped website was promised by the Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, a few weeks ago when he was at an event at MNIT Jaipur. During the event students from the university informed the minister about the problems they and many other people face while using the IRCTC website. After hearing their feedback, he quickly responded and asked the concerned officials to improve the website by July 15. The deadline for the new website is almost here, and the reports say that officials from IRCTC and CRIS have tested the beta version of the website with students from MNIT Jaipur. The updated website is expected to make the ticket booking experience easier and smoother for the travellers.
With the new beta version of the IRCTC website, the users booking a train ticket can expect a cleaner interface, as the makers are expected to eliminate unnecessary security image tasks, disruptive pop-ups, and flashing graphics from the website.
Aside from that, the IRCTC website will now show the seat availability to passengers across all travel classes on a single screen. Hence, you would no longer be required to search it through different tabs.

Moreover, the booking flow is also said to be streamlined so the travellers will now require a bit fewer clicks to finalise the reservation. The revamped website is also anticipated to feature saved passenger details (or a master list), which will allow users to save passenger details and make repeat bookings much faster. While this is not something new, the implementation of the feature has been enhanced.
Lastly, the website backend has also been reportedly optimised to handle higher traffic volumes so the users booking a Tatkal ticket will face fewer crashes and session drops.

Alongside the website redesign, the Indian Railways is also upgrading its passenger reservation engine. It is the system that powers the ticket bookings across railway apps and platforms. Unlike the IRCTC website revamp, it is more complex to update, as the reservation system has to remain active while the upgrade is carried out.
Reports claim that the new engine will improve the overall booking experience by working more smoothly with the redesigned IRCTC website. While the beta version of the IRCTC website will be landing on July 15, the government has confirmed that it would take some time to redesign the passenger reservation engine, and the users can expect a complete rollout in a few months.
