Amazon has announced Alexa+, its next-generation AI-powered voice assistant designed to be smarter and more personalised. Alexa+ introduces a more natural conversational experience, advanced home management, and the ability to take actions across multiple services. Let’s delve into the details of Alexa+.
Alexa+ is powered by large language models (LLMs) available on Amazon Bedrock. “Conversations with Alexa+ feel expansive and natural. Whether you’re speaking in half-formed thoughts, using colloquial expressions, or exploring complex ideas, Alexa+ understands what you mean, and responds like a trusted assistant,” the company explained. Amazon describes it as a more intuitive and insightful assistant, making interactions feel like talking to a friend rather than a machine.
One of the biggest improvements in Alexa+ is its ability to take actions on behalf of users. Amazon has developed “experts”—specialised AI models that handle different tasks, like making reservations, controlling smart home devices, ordering food, or managing schedules. Alexa+ can book appointments, order groceries, control smart lights, and even remind users when concert tickets go on sale.
Alexa+ is designed to learn from users and offer highly personalised recommendations. It remembers details like your favourite foods, music preferences, important dates, and even family recipes to enhance its responses. If you’re planning a family dinner, Alexa+ can suggest recipes based on dietary preferences or recommend nearby restaurants.
