When is the PS6 coming? Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki answers

This year will mark 6 years since we got the PlayStation 5 aka PS5. Now we all remember the great PS5 shortage that followed shortly after the launch of the console. It took over 2 years for Sony to resolve that shortage and make the console easily available for selling. Shortly after, the PS5 Slim entered the market and then it was time for the PS5 Pro, which never made it to India but is still worth mentioning. Now, all eyes are on the PS6. And Sony CEO Hironi Totoki addressed talk around it recently.

Sony CEO talks about PS6

As per a report in Vice, Totoki talked about the PS6 in an investors’ meeting recently. Even though the CEO didn’t outright mention PS6, he did talk about the next-gen console. Now, considering the fact that the PS5 Pro has already been launched, it is safe to assume that he might be referring to the PS6 only.

He reportedly said, “We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices. So we would like to really observe and follow the situation.”

PS6 launch rumours

Earlier, there were rumours that the PS6 will likely arrive in 2027. Then, reports said that due to RAM shortage and other factors, the console might be delayed till 2028 or even 2029.

Speaking of what’s expected from the PS6, a couple of days back, a Beebom report had claimed that Sony could be working behind the scenes to create a future that is highly centered on cloud gaming through the PlayStation 6. The upcoming console is expected to come with improved back-end and fast storage which could offer a much better cloud gaming experience.

Moreover, it is also expected that Sony may adopt a multi-tiered structure for the PS6 range. The possibilities may include a cheaper ‘Lite’ model, a main ‘Pro’ version, and even a portable device that complements the main console.

Now none of this information has been confirmed by Sony so it is wise to take this information with a dash of salt.
