Last month, Sony’s PlayStation announced a controversial decision. One that got the entire gaming community talking (or rather, frowning). Yes, we are referring to the decision of doing away with physical gaming discs entirely from 2028. And just a few days back, PlayStation was in the news again after reports claimed that the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero could launch without a physical PS5 disc. Now, however, there may be some good news for fans who still prefer having a game disc in their hands. A new claim suggests that S-Game could still be planning a physical disc version of the game after all. But, since this information has not been officially confirmed yet, you might want to wait before getting too excited.

A screenshot is being widely shared on Reddit which shows a conversation between a customer and a Play-Asia representative. According to the screenshot, the representative claimed that Phantom Blade Zero will receive a physical release with an actual game disc, rather than simply including a download code in the box.
If true, this would be good news for players who prefer owning their games physically. That said, it is important to note that the claim comes from a third-party conversation and S-Game has not officially confirmed the disc version. So, for now, it is best to treat this information with a pinch of salt.
There is another detail that makes the situation sort of…confusing. S-Game is preparing a Collector’s Edition of Phantom Blade Zero exclusively for China. The edition is priced at CNY 1,199, which is around $180, and comes with a figure of the game’s protagonist along with several other collectible items.
However, despite being a premium physical package, the Collector’s Edition reportedly does not include a physical game disc. Instead, it comes with a WeGame Digital Deluxe Edition activation code.
This has also raised questions about whether S-Game is actually planning to release a standard PS5 disc version. If the company is willing to ship a premium Collector’s Edition without a disc, there is still no guarantee that the rumoured physical PS5 release will happen.
Now you may not have to wait too long for an official answer. Sony has already announced a Phantom Blade Zero-focused State of Play event for August 17, where S-Game is expected to show more gameplay from the upcoming action RPG.
With pre-orders already underway and the game’s October release getting closer, PlayStation might even choose to clarify its plans for physical editions of the game.
