The game is making headlines yet again but this time, it might worry some fans. A former Rockstar Games developer has hinted at yet another possible delay and this could last for months. The latest rumours around GTA 6 delay began when Mike York, a former Rockstar Games animator who worked on GTA 5, commented on the game’s launch. During a recent interview with Indy100, York said that he “would not be shocked” if Rockstar decided to delay GTA 6 once again. However, he also clarified that he no longer works at the company and has no insider knowledge about the game’s current development.
According to a report in Insider Gaming, York also said that since he is no longer an employee of the company, he doesn’t have any exclusive information. But, based on his previous experience of working on GTA 5, the studio prefers releasing a polished game over rushing to meet a deadline.
He also added that if Rockstar feels GTA 6 still needs work, whether that’s fixing bugs or improving a crucial mission, it could choose to postpone the launch by ‘another six months’.
That said, it is important to note that Rockstar Games has not announced any changes to GTA 6’s release plans as of now. So before you panic, it is important to keep this in mind.
For now, GTA 6 is still scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
To add further context, the game has already been delayed twice, first from its original 2025 release window to May 2026, and later to November 2026. Since then, Take-Two Interactive has repeatedly said that the game will indeed launch on the scheduled date. In addition to this, in March this year, a social media post by reliable insider Millie A had gone viral. In the post, the insider had said that Rockstar Games has notified Sony and Microsoft that the game is ‘on track’
So, until Rockstar says otherwise, GTA 6 most likely will launch on November 19 this year. Keep watching this space for more such updates.
