Fortnite on mobile platforms hasn’t had the smoothest journey. After its initial release phase, the game was taken down from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. After a lot of legal drama between the two tech giants, it was announced that the game would return to both platforms. Going forward, the game did make a comeback on iOS devices in May last year. However, there still hadn’t been any news about the release on the Android side. But thankfully, after an almost six-year-long wait, Android users will now be able to hop on the battle royale adventure, as the game is finally returning to the Google Play Store.

Google and Epic Games settled back in November last year, and we’re finally going to see the game back on the Google Play Store tomorrow, on 19th March. Since this is a global relaunch of Fortnite, the game will also be released in India at the same time.
Confirming the existence of the game, the official Fortnite account on X tweeted out, saying, ‘No matter where you are, we’ve got you covered. Fortnite is back on Google Play.’
Interestingly, that’s the same day when the new update of Fortnite, Chapter 7 Season 2, rolls out. The update is set to include new features like Bugs Bunny in the latest battle pass, the ‘Skyzip’ traversal mechanics, completely new team-based mobility items, and a fully refreshed weapon pool as well.
In case you didn’t know about the entire legal drama that took place between Google, Apple and Epic Games, let me give you a short summary. Back in 2020, Google pulled Fortnite from its shopfront, the Play Store, after it was reported that Epic Games was trying to bypass the 30% cut that Google enforces on developers.
They were doing this by redirecting the in-app purchases from the Play Store and onto their own external website. Thereby bypassing the need to use the Play Store for the purchases. The same was seen on iOS devices, too, and Apple did the same thing; they pulled Fortnite from its App Store.
But now, after a long legal battle between the companies, in the end, the game is finally returning to the shopfronts. The game was released on the App Store in the EU back in 2024, and the US market saw the re-release last year. Finally, it is now coming back onto the Google Play Store tomorrow.
