The upcoming fifth season will finally place Francesca Bridgerton at the centre of the story after she remained one of the quieter members of the Bridgerton family in earlier seasons. The new season will also introduce the show’s first same-sex romance, bringing a brand-new direction to the popular period drama.
Since its debut, Netflix’s Bridgerton has gained a huge global fan following because of its romance, emotional family moments and beautiful costumes. Showrunner Jess Brownell has hinted that the next season will continue to offer the emotional storytelling and unexpected romantic developments viewers love. The story is based on When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn.

Season 5 will follow Francesca Bridgerton as she deals with heartbreak after losing her husband, John Stirling. Deeply affected by his death, Francesca chooses to stay away from society and live a peaceful and private life for some time.
After nearly two years, she begins thinking about returning to London’s social circle. However, her life takes a surprising turn when Michaela Stirling, John’s cousin, arrives to take care of the Stirling family estate.
As Francesca and Michaela spend more time together, they develop a close bond that slowly grows into a deeper relationship. Their connection forces Francesca to rethink her feelings about love, happiness and what she truly wants from her future.

Netflix has not confirmed an official release date of Bridgerton season 5 yet. But, reports suggest viewers may need to wait a long time for the new episodes to arrive. According to reports, the next season could premiere sometime between late 2027 and early 2028. Like the previous seasons, it will stream exclusively on Netflix.

Even before the release of season 4, Netflix renewed Bridgerton for a sixth season. The early renewal clearly shows the platform’s strong confidence in the success and popularity of the series.
